Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has allegedly been poisoned, the latest in a string of assaults on critics of the Putin regime.
The apparent poisoning would be the sixth such attack on Russian opposition activists in the past five years. US national security adviser Robert O’Brien said that the apparent poisoning was “extraordinarily concerning” and could potentially affect US relations with Russia.
However, past is prologue. The United States has failed to hold Russia to account both in rhetoric and substance for their attacks on dissidents. They have refused to stand up to Russian aggression on the periphery of NATO, in partner nations Georgia and Ukraine, not to mention the wholesale takeover of Crimea.
The United States only acts when the U.S. Congress compels them to do so, and even then they are rarely enforced with vigor. President Putin continues his election interference, murderous campaign and territorial ambitions because he has failed to receive appropriate pushback.
forever USA urges the United States, working with her allies, to strongly condemn these actions and work towards deterring them.
forever USA’s 10-Principles are part of the Campaign to Restore American Global Leadership.
The United States shall:
7.1 Strengthen the most successful alliance in history.
7.2 Insist on increased allied burden sharing to raise military preparedness.
7.3 Counter undemocratic instincts of Alliance members. NATO cannot have tolerance for undemocratic actions of its member states.
7.4 Stand up to Russian aggression, in Crimea, Ukraine and in Allied areas of operation.
