Engage Alliances and Coalitions of Democratic Nations

Principle 2: Engage Alliances and Coalitions of Democratic Nations

The United States shall:

2.1 Work with democratic allies to design and implement a counter-authoritarian strategy to push back against the encroachment on and abuse of the open systems of democratic states.

2.2 Demonstrate to democratic nations the privilege and advantage of strong bilateral and multilateral relationships with the United States, and reflect this in U.S. policy decisions and spending.

2.3 Strengthen international support for people mobilizing for democracy around the world, while more systematically pressuring countries to uphold human rights and adhere to international law.

2.4 Acknowledge that enabling or excusing oppression abroad only fuels the injustices and instability that endanger us all tomorrow.
